The whole thing reads like a LeCarre Cold War Spy Novel. But we went to war in Iraq under the premise that Saddam had chemical weapons.
This was an actual attack, in he streets, with a chemical weapon vastly more deadly than anything that was supposed to be in Iraq. How deadly?
That nerve agent in the movie with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery was VX. The chemicals released in the UK are 8 times more powerful. Sarin is pepper spray compared to this stuff. It is banned in every International Convention. Not just its use. Its very existence. No Country is allowed to even have it under threat of being dragged off to The Hague.
If such a thing was released on American streets and People died from it what would we do? Yeah. We’d go to War.
There’s going to be alot of noise and no shortage of disinformation as well as intrigue today, tomorrow, next week over all of this. But at the end of the day the United Kingdom was the victim of an attack by the most powerful weapon used since Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
And one capable of killing more People.
